Common web applications include webmail, online retail sales, online auctions, wikis and many other functions.

  1. Monster of a list. Great stuff.

  2. …. fantastic collection of 60+ Web apps that everyone should have on hand…. just because !! :)

  3. Amazing list. Very helpful. I still feel like there needs to be a better to-do list product for people though. Something that allows due dates and sub tasks and stuff like that

  4. Great collection…..

  5. What a great list! You could also list free IzzyHelp.com, online FAQ/Knowledgebase builder, so customers can find answers easily, so they don’t bug you with so many questions

  6. Yuo really missed FreeAgent Central. It’s a super invoicing, time reporting and accounting Service, especially well suited for European freelancers. It’s got it all, API, 3th part CRM integration (over API), active GetSatisfaction support team. etc..

  7. While I use the cloud to host most of my organizational software, I prefer to use open source programming that is installed on my servers. Therefore, my business is just that, mine! I am not helping a company generate ad revenue or pay out my freelance profits.

  8. Great collection…

  9. thanks for this collection. Great share!

  10. Great post, really love the all the help.

  11. Great post :-)

  12. Thanks for the great list, you have a good list of items. Just as an addition to project management besides the expensive ones you’ve listed freedcamp.com is a new service that is about to launch beta, and freedcamp is looking to replace most of the items on the list with Apps/Widgets/Themes and so forth… on top of amazing project management that is.

  13. I truly believe these were really useful as I’ve been using some of these tools in my freelance business.

  14. I don’t know if it could fit in your list, but what do you think about http://www.balsamiq.com/ and http://gomockingbird.com/ to make mocup ?

  20. Great list will bookmark for sure

  21. This is a great list, thanks.

I am struggling to find systems for invoicing and finance that work together. Anyone know of such a system? I send an invoice from my invoice system (cleintexec), I enter it into my finance system (quickbooks) and mark it as paid when its paid, I then manually mark the invoice as paid in the invoice system.

So are there systems that can integrate invoicing and finance together? Seems obvious, but cant find one!

    Thanks

    • use freshbooks for invoicing and integrate it with outright for accounting

  22. I wonder why you have missed CurdBee from the list of invoicing apps. It’ really awesome and comes with great deal of features that helps me to streamline my billing process without any hiccups. Also, their pricing scheme is simple and cheap.

    Hats off to CurdBee!

  23. Nice list, thanks for sharing.

How about adding Piwik (http://www.piwik.org) which is a quite good and promising Open Source alternative to Google Analytics.

    Cheers,
    Lars.

  24. Stacks is an awesome group task management app—super clean design, great UI. http://usestacks.com

  25. Agree with Mikkel Breum:
    FreeagentCentral is simply stunning!

  26. Great list! Really very helpful.
Should also check out http://jobrary.com for portfolio and resume application.

  27. Great post! I’m going to need another job just to go through all of these! I used this for one of my three links today on my Design Thought of the Day blog:
    http://designthoughtfortheday.blogspot.com/2010/02/02-18-twitter-for-designer-web-app-for.html

    All the best, Ted

  28. excellent resource for web designer everybody would need this

  29. wow! this is a great collection!
    Thanks for this post :-)

  30. I use several of those apps all the time, especially Google Docs and Skype. My favorite billing app isn’t on the list, called CompassBill (http://www.compassbill.net).

  31. Great stuff you had here. Most of the application and features are new to me and I can really use them for my business. It such a big help. Thanks for sharing it.

  32. Great list! Well written & informative… Thanks!

  33. I think all these applications are important to me. As a new beginner to webdesign, there’s much to learn. Your introduction has save me a lot of time on it.

  34. Don’t forget http://www.noteboxapp.com. Its a new one just released and is a fantastic tool for getting feedback from clients on your designs. I’ve been beta testing and its a great little web app.

  35. I think RTM is overrated, and Todoist underated, as does not even get a mention. http://todoist.com

  36. Great collection! Thanks for this! LC

  37. Really useful list! Many thanks. LC

  38. Would need an all in one solution, not having to deal with all that info spread across so many applications.
Contacts, Clients, tasks, invoicing, emails, projects, etc etc, all perfectly working together.
    A business home…

    Any sugestions

  39. I must look into these invoicing sites. Great psot Daniel!

  40. omg…… iT TOOK ME AGES TO READ all this content, but thanks a lot for all this info, its realy help me out!!!!!!

  41. So many useful aps! I can’t get enough of them!

  42. Thanks for sharing. These apps are great, and also easy to use! Thanks again.

  43. What a nice ost. Going to have to remember to check out this more often. I am using Wrike for task management. Now considering RTM as more an more persons are talking about this.

  44. what a bunch of crap, if u dont know half of this list you are not a serious web designer and if u dont know the other half u shouldnt even be trying to design websites….really? thx for telling me that skype is a good communication application.
i hate misleading headlines, stop spamming the internet with ur crap

  45. I am using dropbox, remeber the milk and the google products.
I miss the Evernote software on this list!

  46. Thanks for the great resources on CSS generators.

  47. Some great websites listed. Im still very partial to statcounter, been using for over 6 yrs. FREE, love it. Never had to upgrade yet…but maybe thats telling me something…oh wait I did, 5 bucks for one of my sites..bu tgreat stats, clean, and very accurate.,

  48. I’d highly recommend http://www.Hardtree.com as it has nearly all of the tools above in one place, really great customer support and very good pricing.

We use it for everything from managing our sales process to internal messaging, service support and task management. Well worth a look!

  49. Thank you for this great list.

  50. This is a great list, but might I suggest having an editor look these articles over for what are quite elementary spelling and grammar errors? I realize that getting paid to crank out lots of content forces the issue, but the poor quality of the writing detracts from the content at the end of the day.

If iShift and this author wish to be taken seriously, these articles need to be cleaned up. This is not professional-quality writing, and if one is getting paid to do something, it should be of professional quality, don’t you think?

OK, rant over… I enjoyed the list and will be using several of these in the near future. :)

  51. Another great addition to this list would be http://freedcamp.com which offers project management for free!

  52. cool thanks

  53. wow… Cool!
    Thx a lot
being a beginner Freelancer this is luxury!

  54. Great list and very useful one

  55. GThank you for this amazing list! These resources are very useful for web developers. Also I want to recommend PHPforms form builder, which offers a great variety of forms.

  56. Oh, definitely this is a great list ever after. Very useful for designers. Ok. If your team has to track project analytics and choose up right keywords the best tool is wordtracker.com as a collaboration tool our team uses workforcetrack.com – right solution for a freelancers’ team. We chose it for their prices and functionality.

  57. Like the: Client Contact and Feedback Applications section the most! Thanks for this resource!!

  58. “I must recommend you Mockup Tiger the best product of this type I’ve found yet! ”

    Brinda

  59. Thanks for sharing. Am always interessted in new tools to improove our productivity. We use harvest for the time tracking and billing.

  60. This is a great collection – probably the most complete I have ever seen. I have spent years looking at similar apps, and always came up short in functionality. They’re all good apps, but when individual requirements become very specific, nothing beats custom apps.

  61. I love the designs. Very beautiful and creative. Thanks for sharing such great resources. Nice job.

  62. great list it very helpful

  63. This is a great list, and it is very helpful to web freelancers. Also I’d like to recommend TABB-Online to do list and time management software-Project Schedule Tool

  64. Workgroups is a great project management tool I’ve used in the past. It includes many essential tools that have made many of my projects much more manageable. metacommunications.com/products/workgroups/

  65. Great list of useful tools Daniel, thanks for sharing. It happened that I also work as a freelancer and there are a lot of different useful tools that can be use when working efficiently. Communication is essential for me; I use Skype so that I can communicate more often to clients on how to do tasks as he/she desire. Another is I also use Google Docs that helps me manage documents, spreadsheets, presentation, survey and etc. I can’t effectively finish tasks and finish it on time without the help of a time management tool. Using this tool it helps me track time accurately when working on different tasks. I also set an estimated amount of time when working on each task this way I can limit wasted time at the same time stay focus to work.

  66. Yes Carmen I have used Ethnos to report survey for my final school year. I was surprised by the different options proposed in this software …

  67. A very broad and thorough list! I recommend http://filecamp.com for project management.

  68. You have got some of the best tools in your collection, such as Basecamp, Zoho, Dropbox. But I believe there are a lot more better tools available online too, such as Replicon.

  69. Thanks this amazing list of apps. I’ve tried only a few of the programs, but I plan to start using more now that I know about them.

From your list, I’d recommend Dropbox and Basecamp to ANYONE. I absolutely LOVE these two apps, and I really don’t know what I’d do without them now that I’ve gotten so used to using them on a daily basis.

Here’s an addition for your financial applications: Billy’s Billing (http://billysbilling.com) does bookkeeping, invoicing, reports and anything else small businesses need in an accounting system. BB is all about making numbers easy for entrepreneurs so that they can gain full control of their own finances.

Interested parties can sign up for a 30-day free trial of Billy’s accounting software when it launches. Subscribers will be offered VIP access to BB before the public. I hope this helps any freelancer looking for a better way to manage money.

  70. Great post, but where is quoteroller.com ??? It is really the best proposal software for designers with many templates! All my friends who work on freelance use it to contact customers!

  71. I could improve my time tracking workflow using Timeneye (http://www.timeneye.com). I am a Basecamp user (suggested!) and with Timeneye I can track time directly from there, commenting on to-dos with the time I spent on them – everything gets automatically synced and tracked to Timeneye.
I think it’s a nice effort on trying to avoid you lose time tracking your own time.

  72. I think http://www.proofhub.com too should be added in this list so that list can be more productive and useful.

    • Yes I am interested in todo list specially todowiz.biz these two website make this blog more attractive .because its a world greatest task management application I personally use it. Its Free enjoy it.

  73. Great resources. I wanna recommend one more tool that is meant for the sort of time tracking and management, the cloud based time tracking software from Replicon which is meant for the best solution ever that integrates all other tools as well which are meant to be interrelated in the same move.

  74. I every time spent my half an hour to read this website’s posts every day along with a mug of coffee.
