Vast majority of them are crap when you look at them at anything other than 1280×1024: Weirdo default background color, misplaced content (as twitter centers it, but the background is left justified) etc.

Nice collection… Theom3ga ’s comment below is crap. Twitter BG are not easy to make. Viewer screen size is an issue that makes even the best designers pull their hair. I took the two most common sizes and made them work with my design; you can’t get it right for everyone who sees it. Twitter background design is not for perfectionist, that’s for sure!

Adam thanks for your appreciation about my comment. Twitter BG are easy to create as long as you know which the most common screen resolutions are. If you take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution#Current_standards you’ll discover that the most used resolutions are the ones over 1024×768. In fact, I consider highly unlikely that any of the Instant Shift users has a resolution under 1280×1024.

Having said that, you just have to expand your image to the right and bottom to have as much screen coverage as possible. If you have some kind of drawing in the top left corner is pretty easy to fade it to a plain background or even a patterned one.

Obviously your twitter background is pointless as long as twitter doesn’t offer a centered background position, and trying to “fake” it is a real big crap.
