This is very useful and much appreciated

Nice Collection and great effort in collecting the same.
Thanks,

Maybe i’m missing something, but none of these fonts are safe to use for a web design, as none of them are ubiquitous.
Awesome post, I used most of these fonts weekly!
Great list. Thanks!
eh… too bad they won’t just work in browsers. :/
Saying these are the top “pro” fonts is false. Many of these fonts are fake copies of letter-forms used in popular web2.0 logos. They are mostly used due to the popularity of those sites and because they are free. Most “pros” would custom illustrate letterforms for a company logo either from scratch or as a slight mod to a base, established font.
Since these are not web friendly fonts, I’m assuming these are being used for logos and graphic headers/titles. Judging from how many of these are designed, these would not be suitable for use in smaller point sizes and are not optimized for use in large amounts of body copy or for reading on the screen (or print for that matter… issues with kerning, clumping due to variance in weight between letterforms, ect.)
This article should be renamed to “22 Most Used Free Fonts on the Web.”
great post! downloading all of them for future projects.
Yum, it’s like being at an office supply store-good stuff!
Almost a note-for-note list of Smashing Magazine’s Best Free Fonts from about a year ago. Not surprised, though, if I were making a list these would be on it.
Thanx alot, keep up the good work
great stuff. thanks.
My only criticism would be that you provide an archived file of all the fonts.
Great post!
@Mark Sanborn – We can put an archived file of all the fonts but the only reason why we didn’t because we don’t want to stole Traffic of official source. They also deserve their share!
This is a pretty nice compilation of typefaces, but some of them are not free for commercial use, which makes them useless for professional designers.
your link to the article about the 21 fonts includes the word “free” in it which makes it very confusing what you are talking about
@Goldwing Guy — Our Bad… Things corrected now

Thanks. I’d have never found these on my own.
It’s cool to see new resources like this to help identify the many types out there. Any suggestions if something is a custom font? That could get tricky. Thanks for the list, lists are awesome.

I would just like to add one more set of typography resources and that is the forum of http://www.pilo.me
It is a private typography forum with an unbelievable amount of free fonts, premium fonts and exclusive typefaces. I think it was voted the best typography forum of 2009. If you are a font lover/addict, check it out. Like I said though, it is either private or invite only. I have never seen a typography site like it with all it has to offer. Anyhow, check it out, pilo.me
