30 Ecommerce Sites Using HTML5

Searching online it’s easy to find great examples of websites using HTML5, but less easy to discover such sites by category. Commercial sites using the fifth revision to its full potential have been showing up all over the world, so we decided to research and collate some of the better examples and present them for inspiration here.

For the casual reader who isn’t familiar with latest developments, HTML5 is the latest revision of the HTML standard. It offers faster page loading, better interactivity and new ways to display content.

HTML5 introduces many new syntactical features including <video>, <audio>, <canvas>, <section>, <article>, and <header> elements. The canvas element can be used for rendering visuals without having to use a plug-in whilst the video element removes the necessity to use plugins such as Adobe Quick Time and Flash.

Ecommerce sites using HTML5

As browsers increase their readiness to handle HTML5, more and more designers and developers are applying it to their commercial projects. It offers exciting potential for ecommerce with much more intuitive sites appearing, making use of the extended video and visual rendering capabilities.

For example, on the giant marketplace link Amazon, you have to be very careful with technologies to sell things on amazon. It’s vital that the user experience needs to be top notch. There is no margin for error, because once the customer goes away, he never looks back.

All of the ecommerce sites featured below are powered by HTML5 and use the technology to varying degrees of complexity or simplicity. What stands out about all of these sites is the quality of the design work. The effects enabled by HTML5 simply support the quality of the design.

Inspiration for designers working on commercial projects!
